Graphics Film Week 3

This week was a very productive week as we had to work in groups and we had to create a short film relating to our theme, which luckily for us was 'Space' .We first came up with individuals ideas then put all our ideas together on an A2 piece of paper. The great thing about this theme was that we could still be very open as usually people will think of outer space but after our group came up with other ideas, we saw that theres a lot more to the word space. 


We ended up choosing the idea of Literal space where we would get people to fill in a blank piece on paper with random designs and combine all the work together in a sort of way which was very interesting to do rather than doing outer space as it seemed more obvious to do. We decided to record the process in birds eye view but we were having some issues doing so as the tripod would fall over with the way the camera was however we managed somehow and pulled through. We got different people to draw in the boxes shown on the paper and also made an introduction video where we were explained our theme of space through the use of voiceover and moving around the pieces on the paper and writing on the paper. I found this task quite fun to do as it got me engaging with the group and getting to know people in my class better which was nice.

Manifesto week 2

As for our second week, we had to make a personal manifesto relating to something very personal to ourselves. I first did some research and we looked at a graphic designer called Ken Garland.I only then researched some other designed which I would use as inspiration towards my own piece. I really liked the composition of the inspired personal manifesto on the bottom left as it seems rather unique and with the different typographies within the work, it made it stand out even more.









So when I started making my own piece, I made my theme focus towards goals that I set for myself to accomplish within the future as this was very personal for me. I used photoshop when creating this piece as like my inspired pieces, I used the same composition and used different typography for the goals that I chose. This manifesto task really got me thinking about myself on a personal level as it made me realise who I am and what I aim to be which I don't usually think of but I know I will have to sooner or later as we all grow up in the end. 

Manifesto Week 1

We were set a two week task for our personal manifesto and for our first week we focused on our background. I decided to focus on Nigeria, Ghana and England as I'm half Nigerian and Ghanian and was born in England so I did some research on the Nigerian and English Culture. I decided to leave out Ghana later on as I decided to focus my manifesto towards my mother as she is Nigerian. It was very intriguing researching the different cultures as since I was born in London, I was raised up in a multicultural area so I never fully understood my african culture. Comparing Nigerian culture to the UKs' culture, there were a lot of differences, only similarity being their religious background that i could see.

Using the information I gathered, I started planning out different ideas to do for my personal manifesto. I came up with 6 ideas that were related towards my mums background. i wanted to show the development of our culture from the past to the present to show how society has changed and how Nigerian culture changes in the UK. I noticed that the Nigerian culture in the past was more cultural as it originated in Nigeria but changed a bit for us in the UK as since its very multicultural here, the value of culture may have decreased. 

I chose my third idea and developed it by using photoshop to create the piece. I used my graphics tablet to draw the designs. On the left you can see a mask that was used in Nigeria for their culture as it related to religious and spiritual beliefs while on the right it was representing the present time where my mum is dressed, wearing a Gele which is for tradition on special occasions (she usually wears it for church or Nigerian parties/weddings). Overall I think the final outcome came out as expected as the composition worked well and the vibrant saturated colours make the artwork stand out. For improvements, the background could have been a lot more engaging.
